Had a great lunch at Alan’s… very tasty and friendly service
I ordered take out by phone. They said 20 min I was there in like 25 mins and had to wait 10+ min for them to come to window. This is second time we've had horrible service for take out. I guess it's only done in from now on
fish & chips were great. plenty and big chicken tenders were also great with several extra for the doggie bag. Service was great. First time eating inside.

Service wasn’t awesome and there are little to no vegetarian selections. When we told the sever there were two vegetarians no offers of vegetarian selections were made to help. One in our party ordered the lobster mac ($20) so we asked if it could be made without lobster. The server checked and said it could so we ordered it with no lobster. The the bill came and the plain Mac was the also $20. It had no lobster and no bread crumbs like their her one but was the sane price. I asked the server if that was correct and she said yes. If that’s the case, we would have asked for the lobster Mac with the lobster on the side and someone else would face eaten it.
Generally, we really like this place and the food. But the service is on the slower side. Today, they weren't busy, but we didn't get our food for 45 minutes. The server seemed new and couldn't attend to us hardly at all.
Shannon did a great job with service and advice. Drunken mussels and bacon wrapped scallops apps were excellent. Clam chowder and cheeseburger soups delicious. Entrees : prime rib was perfect, Two haddock dishes very fresh and well prepared, lobster Mac and cheese with generous lobster pieces. Prices very reasonable.

Our waitress was very attentive, she went out of her way to make sure we were able to have pancakes from the buffet, after they had run out & we’re working to restock them. Friendly staff & great buffet. Love coming for breakfast buffet on Sundays.
I enjoyed the food, we went for Sunday Breakfast Buffet. We came towards the end of the time, so there were no more pancakes - that's fine. The guy who was manning the omelet station was pretty cool - not a great omelet cook though (self-admitted). It was a decent omelet, I'd eat another lol Our waitress I think was new, she was a little slow and not very amiable - she was short with her questions and answers - not very pleasant. Not mean or rude, just not very friendly. Another table near us had ordered their drinks and it took her almost 10 minutes to get them their drinks and one of the ladies had to ask for her drink from the bar. Otherwise, the food was pretty good a nice array of options for the buffet and everything was hot and pretty yummy.

I liked that there was a bar side where apparently lots of locals can hang out and enjoy live entertainment but at the end of a long day, we sat in the dining room where we could enjoy a quiet meal and our very attentive server Toby. The food was delicious and reasonably priced which is always a plus.

it seemed as though any waitress that passed by us helped throughout the dining experience
The waitress was very pleasant and efficient. The menu has a great variety of things to choose from. They have a lunch special which was great. The portion was great and we certainly did not go away hungry, actually had to take some with us. There are gluten free foods also on the menu. We will definitely go back again.

waited about 5 minutes for a hostess to show up and seat us. Then a customer was arguing with the wait staff in the middle of the restaurant and the waitress was aguing right back at them. Food was pretty good but was usually better than this time.

For a large party of 22 we all felt very comfortable in a private room. Service was excellent. Can't beat the two young waitresses that took care of us. Such patients and kindness to a group of Seniors. Our food was all delivered at the same time and was nice and hot, but most of all delicious.
We ordered the flatbread pizza. A little burnt, but ate it. Too long for waitress to come back and pick up the bill.

Dinner was cold and had to send it back. Waitress not attentive. When refilling drinks, refilled with water instead of sprite and iced tea that was originally ordered. Didn't check back with us very often.

My spouse and I had clams and steak tips. The clams were considered whole belly clams but were extremely small and were more like clam strips. The waitress was so accommodating when I complained. She took my Long Island Iced Tea and my spouses milk off the bill. Almost $10 off. In addition to that I had a Restaurant.com coupon for $10 off the bill. Her superior customer service made sure that we will return to the restaurant again! Had she not been so accommodating I would have left unhappy due to the clams which tasted good but were not anything like whole clams. We would have paid $19.99 for our meals so I felt fine with the discount she gave us.

Still getting use to the new atmosphere. Evrything is noce and clean but it is a dark, less cheerful atmosphere.
I have been coming here at this location for over 40 years. Always love to come back-memories. However this time on the buffet the scrambled eggs were kind of white instead of yellow. I like the ham roast they offer in addition to all the other great foods they serve.
We both had prime rib.....when it came out it was luke warm.....they quickly fixed it without ruining the medium rare that we ordered.
This is the 2nd time we dine here. Both times expecting to have prime rib they advertise and neither time have they had our choice available ....once was a Sunday around 4:30 and the first was a Saturday evening. Don't know if we will try for 2nd time!!

Our server was terrific, as well as the bartender. A large party came in right after we were seated & she moved us away from them, knowing we wanted and quieter meal. The bar was noisy, but she did her best to seat us as far away as possible. The bartender was great and she gave us lots of attention, too.

We were seated at a table shortly after another couple and our order was taken minutes after their order. Yet we didn't get our food until that couple had finished eating and getting ready to leave. The waitress did not offer an explanation nor even come back to refill our coffee cups. This event happened after a visit a week ago when we came for the buffet and found the food was barely warm.

Service was poor - forgot to place the order for my appetizer and then brought it to the table after I had finished my meal. The server and the kitchen didn't know the details of the menu as I didn't receive something that came with my meal according to the menu and had to ask for it - and was told it was not included. After reading their own menu that provided the dish. Server didn't seem to care that the experience was a poor one.

We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waitress took our drink order right away and answered our questions. The menu is extensive. All of the food was prepared freshly and cooked to order. It was reasonably price and of good portion size.

Steak was way overcooked and had a bad taste. The gyro had a horrible smell to it, so bad my wife couldn't eat it. And there was something floating in my wifes drink.

My husband & I always use a scale of 1-10 when dining out (ten is best). HE asked how my seafood newburg was on Sun.6/8--"It was an ll"!!! His Chicken Marsala--an 8! We will be back; our waitress was awesome too!

The bartender/waitperson was very nice, I do not fault her for any of the problems we encountered. Fried pickles were great, dessert skillet was good, my steak was awful. I order the sirloin filet "medium" and the first one came out cooked beyond well done. Waited for a second one and it was better, but still not "medium". I gave up after that. We also ordered steak tips and those seemed closer to the proper temperature.

The restaurant is old, and the entry way is very messy. The waitress wasn't very organized at all; brought my food in one hand and menus in the other while seating a new party. She also opened a bottle of red wine while standing over a gentleman's beige coat...yikes! When I asked what the Turkey Tenderloins were seasoned with, she went to ask. The response from "the chef" was that they come pre-marinated so he didn't know. I believe "the chef" should know what his 'Seasoned Turkey Tenderloins' are seasoned with! I ordered the fajitas and they were just OK; my husbands stuffed haddock was only OK too.
Our Waitress Sheila was wonderful. She made sure everything was to our liking and checked on us several times. Excellent.

Took over 1 hour to get our meal. The seafood casserole should have been an embarrassment to them. For $19 it should have been larger than an appetizer. The other two meals were good.

The steaks were not cooked to order, medium rare. The fillet was more medium but I ate it anyway. The other steak was sent back. 1 free drink was the compensation for the inconvenience.

We arrived later in the evening - around 8:10 - the waitress wasn't too enthused were were there so late.Also - we were told they had Prime Rib (only 2 of us ordered it) but were then told they were out of PR and they served us delmonico's.....certainly not what we hoped for and expected.
My husband and I have gone to Alan's for years. We moved 7 years ago, and have to travel a bit to get there now. We always loved going here, but the last two visits have been a bit of a disappointment. We have had to wait for out food, ask for silverware and drink refills, and track the waitress down for our bill. We love the food but the service needs to improve to keep our business.

We first heard of Alan's of Boscawen from my grandfather, when he was planning my grandmother's funeral. He had a reception after her funeral there. The food was very good.

a little disappointed in quality and pricing of seafood. i never asked but the scallop/haddock combo i thought was overpriced consider it wasn't even sea scallops, but bay scallops. i never would have ordered if i'd known they were bay and not sea. the fish seemed a bit dry, chicken tender meal was good, but appetizer -- large one was probably the best (combo). mushrooms and steak could have been cooked a bit more, mushrooms a bit firm still and steak on the rare side which was fine for me, but for others, maybe not. desserts were o.k., cc pie and molten cake. molten cake was either overnuked or old as it was hard on the bottom and hard to pull apart.
we have lived in Boscawen area for years...before Alan's was Alan's.. Friendly people there... nice to have owner (Alan) say hi when you walk in... neighborhood place ! we love it there.Cheryl & Bob
Have had meals before that were great. Food didn't taste good this time. We will come back because we live close by
the food is way too salty. i was quite bloated the next day and it was too salty to finish. Our server was quite good and friendly
Food was nice and hot !! I totally dislike getting my food and finding it only luke-warm.

Alan's is our local standby, always reliably good food & friendly service. Only one complaint - I miss the Chicken Athena you used to make.
we usually like it better than this time...the server forgot the rolls and the baked potatoes were brown inside and tasted terrible
I was disappointed that they did not have fritters this time. I think that's what you call them. Everybody in our party wanted those.
We will go back.
Ours meals tonight were phenomenal! We are spending the summer about 70 miles north of Alan's but definitely make the drive every summer since we first tried the place. Everything each of us had was A++!
I had salmon with lobster sauce and it was outstanding.
